GRESHAM, Ore. (EOU) – Joyce Lindsey, of Troutdale, recently received a scholarship from the Pat Tillman Foundation. The award is $4,000 per year for two years and will assist in her pursuit of an education from Eastern Oregon University. Lindsey will be a student this fall in EOU’s CUESTE program (Curriculum for Undergraduate Elementary Teacher Education) at Mt. Hood Community College. She is working toward a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her teaching licensure.
Well on her way now to a degree and a new profession, it’s difficult to fathom how life as Lindsey knew it came to a standstill a few short years ago. In 2006 her husband Brad Lindsey was killed in action in Iraq. He was serving with the Oregon Army National Guard. It was his last mission before retirement and one the 19-year military veteran had volunteered for.
