What began almost a year ago in fundraising efforts culminated this past weekend with a celebration of life and a persistence to eradicate the most vicious of foes. The Baker City Relay for Life was a success in many different ways, but the grassroots effort of the community brought together by one foreboding word, cancer, was the most prevalent. The event was filled with live music and scores of activities for young and old, including a Mister Relay dress-in-drag contest to raise funds (we have evidence – please see the pictures), a cardboard box costume contest, a karaoke sing-a-long and, of course, the walking of the laps to remember those who have passed from cancer and for those who are fighting right now.
At this writing, $69,850 was raised to go toward the fight against cancer. The money is still coming in and organizers expect an even higher dollar figure at the end of August. Boomer Radio was out in full force with the whole crew from Pacific Empire Radio joining in to broadcast the entire event. Here are some pictures of the event:
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful photographs with us this year. I missed getting involved in the walk and the activities this year as the Survivor that I am due to us being out of town that weekend. It appears there was so much involvement and I would like to say thank you to those who did get involved.
Thank you all for remembering those who are gone from us now, and for those who may be suffering as we speak, and for those us who have been blessed and are now “survivors” .. and for just being there.
